Sophia had been riding Racer for five years, and their bond was unbreakable. Racer was a majestic 17-hands-high Knabstrupper, with a unique speckled white and black coat. They were about to embark on a simulated hunt, and Sophia was excited. She had been preparing for months, and Racer was the perfect horse for this type of event.
As soon as Sophia had gotten on Racer, she could tell something was off. Racer was restless and anxious, and Sophia could feel his tension. Suddenly, Racer reared up, and Sophia lost her balance, falling off onto the bonnet of a nearby black Ford Ranger. It was a terrifying moment, and Sophia was lucky to have had a body protector on.
Racer then fell backward, nearly crushing Sophia, and pushing Sophia further into the crumbling bonnet. The horse bolted, running through farmer’s fields and breaking through a fence onto a golf course. Sophia was left shaken and hurt, but thankfully, the horse insurance paid for the car damages.
It took weeks before Sophia could ride Racer again. She learned that Racer had had a bad experience on a hunt in the past, which explained his sudden panic. Sophia realized that hunting wasn’t worth the risk and decided to avoid it in the future.
Racer was caught later that day, but he had cuts on his legs from barbed wire fences. Sophia was relieved that the golf course didn’t push for money to fix the fences, but she knew she needed to be more careful in the future. Sophia and Racer still ride together regularly, but they stick to less risky activities. Despite the scary incident, Sophia and Racer’s bond remained unbroken.
